Terracotta Warriors

I chose a picture of one of the real life sized terracotta warriors. I’m not sure if the clay sculpture we have in class is a model of the original 6000, but it looks painstakingly familiar. The terracotta warriors were built in ancient China during the end of the Qin dynasty, which lasted from 221 B.C – 206 B.C. They were constructed as a memorial for Emperor Qin, who was the first to start building the Great Wall of China. All 6000 warriors were made out of clay, and were meant to protect him in the after life. The model we have in class resembles an ancient Chinese soldier. He has the same color as the one in the picture. He also has the same hairstyle, armor/clothing. Overall they are both very fine pieces of art, which is why the terracotta warriors are one of the most draw dropping sights on the planet. It’s obvious that just one of the 6000 soldiers took a lot of time and work to build. Imagine how much time work, and men were used to build the entire tomb of the great Chinese emperor.
